Outboxer is a set of e-mail filters that scan outgoing e-mail and displays alerts that allow the sender to either edit their message or cancel sending it. Outboxer also flags personal e-mail so that it can be removed from the server after being sent, reducing archive sizes since government regulations for retaining e-mail do not apply to personal messages - only to business correspondence. Outboxer can also flag inappropriate email messages and confidential information. The alerts the system popped up looked to be easily understood and provided specific information about why sending a particular message might be a really bad idea.
Fortiva showed it's e-mail archiving and compliance monitoring solution now delivered as an appliance that can be installed locally (most of their competition only provide hosted solutions) addressing bandwidth and potential privacy issues. Fortiva looks like another Microsoft Office 2003 application, presenting a familiar user interface. The application can search through archived email comparing it to compliance policies and generating expert reports showing potential violations. In addition to these rules-based processes, Fortiva's software also allows you to search through e-mail messages and attachments for any keywords as well.
