iControl Networks at DEMO 2005

icontrol1
iControl Networks  introduces a home control and automation system that is run from a web portal, allowing you to monitor your home or business remotely.

The web interface displays the following  information in a series of modules:
  • Status of the connection
  • Pictures from one or more web cams
  • Alarm History based on sensor inputs
  • Updates to the iControl systems
  • Today's Schedule
  • Reminders
There are three components to the system - sensors arrayed around the house or business, the iControl box, and the iControl portal (accessed through a browser, cell phone, or wireless PDA). The IP-enable iControl bix connects to the iControl portal and begins sending data from sensors -  promising zero configuration.

Real-time notifications per event (e.g. front door opened, window opened, etc.) build an auditable trail of events to document what is transpiring at the tremote location.

iControl installed a camera at the entrance door to the presentation room prior to the opening and showed pictures of attendees wandering in. Chris Shipley quipped, "Don't even try to sneak in here after hours.".

DEMO Day 0 Photos

Took some photos at the producers cocktail hour. Heard there are 700 folks here (wow!) from Chris. Spent a bunch of time talking with Marc Orchant who I'd never met in person before tonight, and I chatted up Ben Trott from Six Apart.

We've landed at Demo 2005--year 15 of the conference!

Just got into the Westin Hotel and we're on our way to the opening night reception at DEMO. We will be posting from the event for the next two days with text, photos, and if everything goes well some video.

The BloggingDemo team is Marc Orchant, Jade Li, Jared Kim and myself, Jason McCabe Calacanis.

On a side note, I can't believe this hotel has the nerve to charge $16 a day for Internet access!!! Hello?! This should be free, or no more then $10 a day.

Of course, I'm rocking out on my EVDO card at DSL speeds for FREE. In another three years hotels are going to lose 90% of the money they are making from Internet access--can't wait for that day!
